Turkish-Americans Celebrate the 102nd Anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye

Recognized by Members of U.S. Congress and Michigan Leaders

Across the United States, Turkish-Americans proudly celebrated the 102nd Anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye, honoring the visionary leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the founding of the modern Turkish Republic on October 29, 1923.

For the Turkish-American community, Republic Day is a reflection of shared values — liberty, democracy, and civic responsibility — that unite Türkiye and the United States. It’s a day to celebrate not only the past but also the continuing partnership between the two nations.

This year’s anniversary was marked by a remarkable wave of Congressional Records and Proclamations recognizing the Turkish-American community’s contributions to culture, education, and diplomacy.

Congresswoman Debbie Dingell honored the anniversary by highlighting TACAM’s decades of dedication to cultural preservation, education, and community service. She emphasized the shared democratic values, respect for human rights, and long-standing friendship that continue to strengthen ties between the United States and Türkiye.

Congressman Shri Thanedar issued remarks celebrating Türkiye’s Republic Day, recognizing the cultural, civic, and economic contributions that Turkish-Americans bring to communities across Michigan.

Congressman Tom Barrett shared a congratulatory message marking the 102nd anniversary, reaffirming Türkiye’s importance as a key NATO ally and acknowledging the strong connections Turkish-Americans maintain throughout Michigan.

Mayor Andy Schor of Lansing officially designated October 29, 2025, as Turkish Republic Day in the city, honoring the positive impact Turkish-Americans have on Lansing’s cultural diversity, educational landscape, and economic growth.

Congressman Jack Bergman commemorated the 102nd Anniversary of the Founding of the Republic of Türkiye, celebrating more than a century of partnership between the United States and Türkiye. He emphasized Türkiye’s strategic importance, its role within NATO, and the significant contributions of Turkish-Americans to Michigan and the nation as a whole. He underscored that shared democratic values continue to deepen the bond between both countries.

Mayor David Anderson of Kalamazoo proclaimed October 29, 2025, as Turkish Republic Day, recognizing the civic, cultural, and economic influence of Turkish-Americans throughout the region.

In Northville, Mayor Brian P. Turnbull issued a formal proclamation honoring the 102nd Anniversary. His declaration highlighted the founding of the Republic by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the contributions of Turkish-Americans in education, culture, civic engagement, and economic life, and Türkiye’s important role in international peace efforts and NATO missions. He also acknowledged Türkiye’s early and unwavering solidarity with the United States in global security efforts. Mayor Turnbull officially designated November 1, 2025, as Turkish Republic Day in Northville, joining other communities across Michigan in celebrating Turkish heritage.

Additionally, on October 29, 2025, Congressman Joe Wilson, alongside Congressman Steve Cohen as co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on U.S.–Türkiye Relations, issued a statement celebrating Turkish Republic Day. Their message emphasized the importance of U.S.–Türkiye cooperation for global peace, security, and prosperity, and recognized the valuable contributions of Turkish-Americans nationwide.

Republic Day marks the birth of a modern, democratic Türkiye grounded in principles of secularism, gender equality, education, and civic progress. For Turkish-Americans, the holiday represents both pride in their cultural identity and gratitude for the opportunities and freedoms found in the United States — two democracies bound by shared values.
