Rubinyan announced the meeting publicly, noting that the two sides discussed regional developments as well as the Armenia–Türkiye normalization agenda, a process that has stalled repeatedly over the past two decades but now appears to be receiving renewed attention.
The U.S. Embassy in Yerevan confirmed Under Secretary Hooker’s visit, describing her mission as an effort to help advance President Donald Trump’s broader vision for regional peace, economic integration, and stability.
Why This Meeting Matters
The engagement signals a notable shift: The United States is working more actively to shape diplomatic outcomes between Armenia and Türkiye, two neighbors with a long-standing history of tension, closed borders, and unresolved political disputes.
For Armenia, normalization could open new transportation routes, trade corridors, and opportunities for economic diversification.
For Türkiye, advancing dialogue aligns with its interest in regional connectivity, energy routes, and broader diplomatic influence in the South Caucasus.
For Washington, facilitating rapprochement offers strategic benefits — including reducing Russian leverage in the region and strengthening U.S. influence at a critical geopolitical crossroads.
What Comes Next
While the meeting reflects progress, several obstacles remain:
Domestic sensitivities in both Armenia and Türkiye
Lingering distrust after decades of political estrangement
Post-Karabakh geopolitical tensions
Russia’s diminished yet still significant role in regional affairs
Whether the current diplomatic openings translate into tangible outcomes — such as border openings, direct flights, or formal agreements — will depend on sustained political will in both capitals and continued U.S. engagement.
TC-USA PAC Perspective
For the Turkish American community, a constructive and well-managed normalization process between Armenia and Türkiye has long-term implications for regional stability, trade, and diplomacy.
TC-USA PAC supports efforts that enhance peaceful cooperation, strengthen U.S.–Türkiye relations, and encourage sustained engagement between communities with shared regional interests.
We will continue to monitor these developments closely and provide timely updates to our network as the Armenia–Türkiye dialogue evolves.
